A two-day event, “Chalk the Walk”, which is a madonnari chalk art festival in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Each year as part of the festival, we feature a large community piece, based on a recognizable work of art. Festival goers receive an image of what goes into one of about 250-300 squares on the street. When all the squares are filled in, the result is a large reproduction of the art work.
This year is the 13th anniversary, Cinco de Mayo, a piece by Robert Rodriquez is our chosen community piece. The picture emerges over the two days, usually being completed around 4 pm the second day. Pictures are taken, the festival ends, the barricades are removed, and the chalk art disappears beneath the car tires
