Mariusz Stawarski

A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. Between

1983 and 1988 he studied at the Faculty of Architecture

and Industrial Design. In May 1990 he joined the Malbork

Castle Museum, where until today he has been running

the art studio, designing exhibitions and preparing the graphic

design of museum publications. In the mid-1980’s he began

to participate in international cartoon contests in Poland,

Belgium and Turkey. He has received many distinctions and

awards, including the Grand Prix of Satyrykon ’98, Second Prize

in 2014 and the Second Prize at Aydin Dogan Vakfi in Turkey

in 2005. Between 1996 and 1999 he cooperated with the

Wprost weekly as an illustrator. Together with Marek

Stokowski he co-wrote the book Dreams for Adults and Children.

In 1999 he received an award for his illustrations for this book

from the Polish section of the IBBY.

In November 2006 he signed a contract with the New York-

based Illustration Agency Lindgren & Smith. His clients

included United Airlines, Heifer, Salt River Project, Eating Well

Magazine or Pray!Magazine. The children’s book Sky Magic

featuring his illustrations was published in the US in March

  1. A year later the graphic magazine My Dpi from Taipei

(Taiwan) published a brief interview with him about the

beginning of his work, sources of inspiration and plans

for the future. In June 2011 The Expedition was published on

the Polish market, a book of the famous Polish explorer of polar

regions Marek Kamiński featuring a dozen illustrations
