Jonny Mendelsson was born in London in 1968, on the day Russia invaded Czechoslovakia. He is the youngest of three children born to German Jewish refugees. After graduating from Liverpool , he returned to his native North London working from a shed at the bottom of his parents garden.
Crossing the divide Mendelsson left North London for South London and got a studio in East London in an old button factory. The studio was always hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Finally in 2004 He left the Metropolis for life in the country with his illustrator wife Becky and two young sons, Otto & Felix and their two cats Bunty & Hugo. The cats upped sticks and a new chum was found in the shape of Dizzy the dog.
Before Otto, life revolved around Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, and collecting assorted ephemera, including fruit wrappers and Balloon pumps, in fact anything cranky. Other passions include collecting Post war childrens books including Miroslav Sasek, Roger Duvoisin & Alain Gree.
To celebrate his 10th year of working digitally he finally bought a G5 and moved to OSX, and what a difference it makes! He now works in the basement of what was once the village store - the temperature is a little more constant now! He stops off in New York once in awhile to go shopping and eat big sandwiches.
