Dan Williams
Dan Williams has 25 years of experience as an illustrator. His time is divided between commercial work, painting on location and lecturing.
For Dan Williams, all three disciplines compliment each other making his professional life stimulating and varied.
Over the years Dan Williams has travelled extensively in South East Asia, Northern Africa and Europe.
These experiences continue to feed into the images Dan creates today. Keeping sketchbooks and observing from life is an essential ingredient, informing and inspiring the work he creates in the studio. There is a fluency and immediacy inherent in his brushwork that has been crafted from his love of working on location, giving his images energy, excitement and a strong sense of place even when he is more reliant on photographic reference.
Dan Williams uses a variety of water-based and acrylic media to create his lively paintings. The artwork is then scanned and completed as digitised images.
For Dan it is important that the work retains a quality of ‘just painted-ness’.
Recent clients include: Harvard University Press, National Geographic, Four Seasons, Cleveland Orchestra, Dwell, Morgan Stanley.
Dan Williams exhibits his landscape paintings regularly in the UK and his work can be found in many public and private collections.
Dan Williams is a graduate of the Royal College of Art. He currently lives in London and is busy renovating a Victorian house and overseeing the building of a magnificent studio. Moving into a bigger work space he hopes will encourage a broader approach to his practice, allowing him to set up print-making facilities and paint on a larger scale.
His last lecturing post was heading up the Illustration Department at the famous Glasgow School of Art in Scotland.
In the future Dan Williams wishes to continue teaching on a smaller scale offering private tuition and drawing classes in his new studio.
The rest of Dan Williams’ time is devoted to the two ladies in his life: Sabine (a human being) and Dotty (a Parson’s terrier).
